Mr. Astina is one of a small group of wood carvers in Bali who broke from the traditional carving in the early 1980’s and explored more contemporary creations. He has exhibited his work in Jakarta, Indonesia, New York and Canada. He has retired from carving so there will be no new pieces on the market. He now teaches carving to foreign and local artists from his Astina Gallery complex in Mas. Mas is one of the villages in Bali fundamentally identified as focusing on artistic wood carving. The village's popularity as an art village is famous internationally. This piece is not your typical mass-produced Balinese woodcarvings as seen on Ebay or in souvenir stores. It is masterly carved iand will enhance the interior of a home or condominium. It will capture attention and be a truly admired conversation piece to all that view it.
